Monthly Interview : 海や湖、世界の水中を舞台に第六感を研ぎ澄ませて命の輝きを表現
「水中表現家という唯一無二の存在」であることが、WEBサイト“Ai Futaki”に一目瞭然。海中でサメと正面から向き合う姿、ウミガメや魚群、クジラと泳ぐ、楽しく、美しい姿が、写真と映像で表現されています。その舞台は、シパダン、モルディブ、メキシコなど、世界各地の海や、ギネス記録を達成したメキシコの淡水洞窟など。年のうち3分の2は海外での創作活動に費やしているとのことです。
日本帰国中の一日、水中表現家としての活動と海の中での五感について語っていただきました。

「五感＋3つの間（ま）」とは：私たちKANSEI Projects Committee（KPC）は、人間の知覚である「五感」の総合的作用に加えて、「人間」「時間」「空間」という３つの「間（ま）」の関係性から空間の質を向上させるプロジェクトチームです。様々な人と過ごす場では、その人との関係性、つまり「人間」（人の間（ま））がその場の居心地を大きく左右します。会議の雰囲気や、大切な商談で緊張をほぐすような空気感をつくるには、その中にいる人間に重きをおいて「空間」をデザインする必要があります。「時間」は休日や仕事の時の流れの違いやそのペースを意味しており、その時間（時の間（ま））によってそれぞれ時の感じ方が変わっているはずです。どのような「空間」にも、私たちの感性で感じる要素がたくさんあります。私たちは「五感」と３つの「間（ま）」の観点から、感性の要素を科学的に検証し、その空間の最適な在り方をコンサルティングします。

Monthly Interview : Honing the Sixth Sense to Express the Underwater Miracle of Life
One glance at Ai Futaki’s website reveals she is unparalleled as an “underwater artist”. Whether it is coming face-to-face with a shark or swimming side-by-side with sea turtles and schools of fish, Futaki’s photographs and video footage are breathtaking. From Sipadan, Maldives, and Mexico to the freshwater caves where Futaki broke a Guinness world record, Futaki spends two-thirds of the year in oceans around the world. We interviewed her during her recent stay in Japan to hear about her work as an underwater artist, and about relying on her five senses in the deep blue sea.

In addition to deepening our knowledge regarding the comprehensive workings of the five human senses, the KANSEI Projects Committee (KPC) focuses on the relationship between ma (people, time and space) to elevate the quality of a shared physical environment. In any space shared with others, the relationship between people greatly influences comfort level. In order to create a space that helps ease the tension of a critical meeting or negotiation, designing with participants in mind is key. Time refers to the differing pace between work and non-work days, and the many ways in which passage of time is felt by individuals. Each space we encounter is filled with elements that trigger our senses. We as consultants focus on the five senses and the element of ma (relationship between people, space and time), verifying sensory elements scientifically to identify ways to create the most comforting environment.

フリーダイバーの二木あいさんが世界の海に潜る人気シリーズ第４弾。
今回の舞台は「絶海の孤島群ガラパゴス」。ガラパゴスは、なぜ「ガラパゴス」なのか？その海に秘められたミステリーを、二木さんが動物たちと交流しながら紐解いていく。ガラパゴス諸島は進化の実験場と呼ばれ、ゾウガメやダーウィンフィンチなど独自に進化した陸上動物で有名だ。
しかし、海にも世界に類のない多くの固有種がいることはあまり知られていない。世界で唯一熱帯に生息するガラパゴスペンギン、世界で唯一潜るようになったウミイグアナなどその数は計り知れない。
世界の海とつながっているはずなのに、なぜか‘孤立’し進化した生物たちの謎。背景には、赤道直下にも関わらず水が冷たいという「海流の魔法」、「閉ざされた海」というガラパゴスの特殊な環境がある。二木さんが、海の不思議な固有種たちと出会い、一緒に泳ぐことでその進化の謎に迫る。

Island Explorer2。 今回の探検の舞台は、性格の違う3つの海に囲まれた奇跡の島、天草諸島。豊潤な海を湛える天草の海で太古から育まれていたイルカと人との共生に出会った。探検するのは、水中表現家・二木あい。
水中表現家とは、水の中に潜り、時には水中の生物の圧倒的な瞬間を撮影したり、時には自らが被写体となり海の壮大さや美しさを表現する、二木が自ら作り上げたアートシーン。二木は水中の生物との対話を実現する方法として、より生き物として素の状態を保つためにボンベを付けない素潜りにこだわる。二木はこれまで世界中の海を潜ってきたが、意外にも日本の海はあまり潜っていないという。
そんな探検者・二木あいは天草の冬の海でいったい何を見て、何を感じるのだろうか。また天草には素潜り漁という伝統の漁がある。同じ素潜りを生業とする二木と漁師との間にどんな交流が生まれるのか。さらに、番組のもうひとりの主人公が天草の海に太古から生息するイルカたち。イルカたちにとって楽園とも言えるほど海が豊かな理由とは。そこには天草の独特な地形と、天草の海を守ろうとする島の人々の努力の形があった。
この番組は島をめぐり、その島に根付く自然や人々の生活に目を向け対話する、壮大なネイチャードキュメンタリーである。

「さわやか自然百景」ではこれまで700回近い放送で、日本各地の大地の物語とそこに暮らす生きものたちの姿を伝えてきた。流氷の海、深い雪に覆われた高峰、光降り注ぐ広葉樹の森、色鮮やかなサンゴ礁が広がる海辺。「水」は「大地」と相互作用で様々な命が育まれる場を作ってきた。珠玉の映像の中から、高原、湿地、海岸線、山岳の4つの場所をピックアップ。旅人が訪れ、大地と生きものの営みに触れる。
舞踊家の尾上菊之丞さんは長野・戸隠高原で紅葉に包まれながら舞い、俳優・羽田美智子さんは、ふるさと茨城の水郷を巡る。水中表現家の二木あいさんは、沖縄・石垣島のサンゴ礁をマンタとともに泳ぎ、俳優の上川隆也さんは、日本人の心のふるさと、富士山を望む山を訪ねる。自然が生み出した造形美とそこに息づく命の営みを見つめる。

講演のテーマは”Back to Origin” （原点に帰る）
世界中の海に潜り、たくさんの海洋生物と触れ合った二木さんが、すべての物事は海に戻ってくるという観点から、美しい水中の写真と一緒に、日頃私たちが身近に感じない海の中の世界をご紹介します。
講演のあとは、下関の学生によるプレゼンテーション『“港町の下関”というマチが、これからどうなって行って欲しいか。』について若者の率直な意見をプレゼンして頂きます。
最後に、下関の学生も参加しての「パネルディスカッション」“港町の下関”で海をどのように考えるかを、二木さんも含めてディスカッション形式でお話しします。
下関は３方を美しい海に囲まれているという特別な市です。海からの恵みである海産物を美味しく「食する」だけでなく、美しい海の世界をもっと知って、きれいな海を後世に残していきたい。そんな事を考えるきっかけになればよいな、と思いながら企画されている手作りカンファレンスです。
